Sometimes, braces need a little help to create the perfect smile. That’s where our specialized orthodontic appliances come in. Think of them as power-ups on your smile journey!
Each one has a specific job, from correcting your bite to making sure your beautiful results last a lifetime. Here are some of the tools we use to craft amazing smiles.
Elastics (Rubber Bands)
These small but mighty rubber bands are a common part of treatment. They apply gentle, continuous pressure to help your upper and lower teeth fit together perfectly.
Wearing them as instructed is one of the most important things you can do to keep your treatment on track!
Palatal Expander
A palatal expander is a device that gradually widens the upper jaw. It’s most often used for younger patients while their jaw is still growing.
By creating more space, the expander can help correct crossbites and reduce crowding, setting the stage for a beautiful, broad smile.
Retainers
Your treatment might be done, but this is the final step to a lifelong smile! Retainers hold your newly straightened teeth in their perfect positions while your gums and bone adjust.
Wearing your retainer exactly as prescribed is crucial to protect your investment and keep your smile looking fantastic for years to come.
Separators (Spacers)
These are tiny rubber rings that we sometimes place between your teeth for a short time.
Their only job is to create a small amount of space so that we can comfortably fit orthodontic bands around your molars at your next appointment.
Appliances for Bite Correction
For more complex bite issues, like overbites, we use advanced appliances that help guide jaw growth and alignment.
The Forsus™, Herbst®, MARA, and Twin Block Appliances – H3
While they all have different names, these modern devices share a common goal: to help the lower jaw grow forward to correct an overbite.
They are fantastic alternatives to headgear and work with your natural growth to improve your bite and facial profile, sometimes even preventing the need for future jaw surgery. We will choose the appliance that is best suited for your unique needs.
Headgear
While used less frequently today thanks to modern alternatives, headgear is a classic and effective tool.
It is typically worn at night and applies gentle pressure to guide the growth of the jaw and teeth, helping to correct more significant overbites or underbites.
